Changing your cat’s food from one brand to another doesn’t have to be difficult. I’m sharing a few helpful tips that will make the process stress free. When you’re thinking about changing their cat food, it’s important to do it slowly so your cat has a chance to get used to the new flavor or style of food you’re introducing.
How to Introduce Your Cat to a New Food
Cats can be just like children when it comes to trying new things. Have you ever tried to get a child to eat a new vegetable before? It’s not an easy process. Cats often have the same reaction, but these tips will definitely help.
Take it slowly
Don’t just put a bowl of new cat food in front of them one day and surprised them all at once. Instead, take it slowly by gradually introducing the new food over a week or two. I find that three days at 25% new food / 75% old food, then three days at 50% / 50% and three days at 75% and 25% works best for our cats. This lets them get used to a new food at their own pace and learn to love the new food. You can see Scout is going crazy for the delicious Bistro taste of Meow Mix Bistro Recipes we gave him.
Wet to dry
If you’re trying to change your cat from wet food to dry food, you may need to be a bit sneaky. Instead of taking away the wet food one day and replacing it with dry, you may need to gradually add dry cat food to the wet food until they get used to it. If your cat is still being a bit finicky, try adding a bit of tuna juice to the wet food to attract them.
Don’t give up
If your cat is being finicky or not adjusting as quickly as you’d like, try a new flavor or a new variety of cat food that they’ll enjoy. Look for cat food that is prepared with real meat. This will tempt your cat’s appetite. Look for Meow Mix Bistro Recipes. Our cats cannot resist the gourmet taste. And, I love knowing that it’s made with real salmon.
