Pests and Dogs
As well as needing flea and tick pest control, there are other pests that are attracted to your pet dog. Here we are going to take a look at the top 5.
- Rats – Because your dog relieves themselves in your garden, this can be a great attraction for rats. Dog poop contains fats, proteins, carbs and minerals that are very attractive for rats. So if they smell it even from miles away, they will head towards your garden thinking it’s a food source.
- Mice – Much the same as rats, mice can also be attracted to your dog’s poop. Any dog food that you leave out for your canine friend also provides a meal for a rodent pest as well. It’s always best to feed your pet dog and then pick up the food when they are finished to avoid this problem.
- Fleas – Fleas are attracted to dogs because that’s where they get their meals from. Fleas feed on animal blood, and your dog’s hair is their perfect habitat. Pet dogs often become susceptible to flea problems, so it’s important to ask your vet for an effective spot on treatment that’s suitable for your dog.
- Ticks – Ticks are much the same as fleas, and want to attach themselves to your dog as a food source. Because ticks attach themselves to your pets, you need to visit your vet if you find one on your dog and you’re not sure how to remove it yourself. It’s incredibly important to remove ticks properly because any teeth left in the tick bite can cause an infection.
- Flies – Flies are attracted to your dog’s feces and food. Once a fly lands on your dog’s poop, it can land inside your home and spread that bacteria. If a fly lays their eggs on your dog’s food, they can cause worms and make your dog very ill.
In the last year alone, pet owners have invested in home fumigation services more than any other year. That’s because the flea and tick population is at an all-time high. It is crucial for the health of your pet and your family to be careful about what your best friend attracts to your house.
