Benefits of making homemade cat treats with tuna
- I know exactly what’s in them.
- They are made with all-natural ingredients.
- They are easy to make and I can adjust the recipe size as needed.
So, all you need to make this homemade cat treats is flour, egg, and tuna. That’s it. There are only three ingredients. You could even eat them yourself if you really wanted to.
Do I have to use tuna in this recipe?
No, you will need to use some type of oily fish because the oil helps keep the dough together. But, you could use mackerel or salmon if you prefer. Either of those will work well.
How long do homemade cat treats last?
You will need to store these in a container with a tightly fitting lid. If you do that, you can keep these in the refrigerator for about two weeks.
You can put them in a freezer bag and keep them in the freezer for a few months if you have more than you can easily use.

What type of cookie-cutter should I use?
Any 1/2″ to 3/4″ cookie cutter will work. I plan on getting one of these goldfish cookie cutters to use. If you don’t have a cookie-cutter, you can use a butter knife to cut the treats into small squares.
Or, you can use a pizza cutter wheel to cut these into squares as well. Just make sure they are small enough for your cat to eat comfortably.
Is it OK for my cat to eat canned tuna?
Too much tuna isn’t good for your cat because it isn’t a balanced diet. These should be served as treats, not as cat food or a large part of their diet.
Your cat should still eat their traditional canned or kibble cat food. These treats are only intended to be a snack. Don’t let them fill up on them.
