How to Monitor Your Pets Activity and Calories

Last Updated on January 14, 2023 by ellen

Have you ever wondered how to monitor your pets activity? We know that both of our kitties are on the chunky side. We’re working with the vet to help them lose weight. But, it’s hard to know where we are or how we’re doing? I’m not at home all day watching them to see if they’re getting enough exercise. Sometimes, it seems like all they do is sleep in the sun. I’ve been looking for some way to monitor how active they are.

Poof (like a FitBit for pets) is the solution to this problem! Poof is available in two different varieties: Pea and Bean. Each Poof Activity Tracker will monitor sleep and activity as well as track calories. Plus, it’s waterproof and has a replaceable or rechargeable battery depending on the variety you choose! So, how does it work?

Like the activity tracker you have for yourself, Pea (the round one) and Bean (the oval one) work with an app on your smartphone (iPhone or Android).  They are Bluetooth Enabled and there are no monthly fees at all. These trackers fit right on your pet’s existing collar and are available in a variety of colors.

Through the app, you can check their activity level, their sleep quality, how many calories they have burned/eaten, and get an overall score for their fitness based on other pets. They are both great for either cats or dogs.

To make the process even more fun for you, you can earn “treats” by syncing your tracker, commenting, liking or posting a photo. These “treats” are discounts on various pet products on Amazon.

My thoughts:

I always worry when I start to use new technology because I’m never sure how complicated it will be to set up. Thankfully, the Poof Bean and Pea were simple to get started with. the Bean needs to be charge in a USB charger just like your FitBit would. The Pea uses a regular battery so you just pop it in and put the cover on and you’re all set.

Then you create profiles for your pets on Poof with their weight, name, birth date, etc. And, you sync the Poof with the app on your phone. It literally took me less than 5 minutes to get each one set up. Once that’s done, it’s very simple to watch how active your pet is by using the app.

If you’d like to monitor your pet’s activity, the Poof is definitely a great way to get started. Here are a few ways to exercise your dog indoors.
